Your new hires need to feel supported throughout the training process. That way, they'll feel confident in their new roles. But remote training can be difficult under the best of circumstances.
Then COVID-19 happened.
Many companies had to pivot and change how they trained their new hires. In other words, they had to move from the classroom to digital spaces.
Virtual learning takes problem-solving skills, grit, and patience. The good news is that if you're an entrepreneur, you most likely already have these skills.
Here's how to put them to the test.
Before the pandemic, new hires were able to talk with their instructors face to face. But social distancing has made it difficult to fit as many people in the classroom and ensure they’re six feet apart. A lack of in-person training also makes it difficult for new employees to feel a sense of community.
While video chats and live streaming can't replace in-person communication, they come close. It's also better than having your new employees feel isolated as they work from home.
Live streaming is a great tactic but make sure there’s a recorded link people can use afterward. That way, people can play back the live stream for their own reference. It's also great for people who may have missed the original training.
There are many ways to get your point across while training. For example, we recommend screenshots, videos, and live streams.
Many times, it’s easier for people to understand what you’re talking about when you can provide a visual example. For this reason, we recommend finding ways to schedule virtual face-to-face meetings.
It’s easy for people to feel isolated while working from home. At the same time, it’s difficult to connect with a faceless company through emails and conference calls. That’s why we recommend that you schedule video meetings.
Video meetings give your trainees the opportunity to ask questions. It also helps them get to know the other people on their team.
Your employees may be moving through the training along with the rest of their class or at their own pace. That’s why it’s important that you have a way to track all your training efforts. This will allow you to see your employees’ progress or identify areas where people seem to get stuck.
Tracking is also good for your employees. That way, they can stay motivated as they move toward their goals.
